Money is the root of all evil. Has anyone ever said that to you? They may have also said this: God helps those who help themselves. But, I digress…
In I Timothy 6:10a, Paul wrote: For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil…

Money itself is not evil. But our love for it can become dangerous. As a Christian, I’ve wrestled with this myself. I’ve wondered if I think about money too much.
Money Matters
Why do I think about it so often? Because in the world we live in, money touches almost everything. We need it for food, housing, bills, transportation, and the ordinary needs of life. And when there isn’t enough, the pressure can feel heavy.
Debt can pile up quietly. Stress follows. It lingers in the background of our thoughts and sometimes keeps us awake at night.
So what does God want us to do with all of that? Does He want us to ignore it? Pretend it doesn’t matter? Work endlessly to make more while neglecting our families, our church, or our relationship with Him?
I don’t believe so.
Money: Positive Steps
First: Come to Him
Bring it all before the Lord. Confess if you’ve been unwise with money. Confess if fear or striving has taken over. And confess if debt feels overwhelming. God already knows—but He invites us to come anyway, because He desires relationship with us.
Second: Ask
Throughout the Gospels, Jesus teaches us to ask. Ask for wisdom, for provision, for help. Ask for His will to be done in your life. And ask Him to show you what faithfulness looks like in your current season.
Third: Act
Not in panic. Not by forcing your own way forward. But by prayerfully taking the next step He puts in front of you.
That may look like changing habits. Learning a new skill. Paying off debt little by little. Starting something small.
That’s what I did.
I asked God how I could earn income from home in a way that fit my life and my limitations. Because of chronic fatigue, working in a traditional office or building a corporate career wasn’t realistic for me. So I prayed. I researched. And because I’ve always loved books, I eventually found my way into self-publishing on Amazon.
After trying several different types of books, I discovered I especially enjoy creating low- and medium-content books—journals, planners, activity books, and more.
Has it been easy? No.
Anything worthwhile takes work. But through it, I’ve learned to keep bringing it back to the Lord. To ask Him to guide me. To open and close doors. To redirect me when needed.
And He has. Not always in the way I expected. But often in better ways than I planned. As Proverbs 16:9 says, The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps.
Praise God He does!
If this sounds interesting to you…
I’d encourage you to pray. Ask the Lord whether self-publishing might be something worth exploring for you.
And if it feels like something you’d like to learn more about, I’d love to invite you to join me for my next free workshop where I’ll share:
- How low and medium content publishing works
- Why most books never make money
- What actually matters if you want to build long-term royalty income through publishing books on Amazon

And if publishing isn’t the path God has for you right now, I pray you’ll ask Him what He does have for you—and trust Him as He leads you there, one step at a time.

Meeting Carol has been a delight. And that’s what led to asking her to write a piece for this blog. Her insights are helpful and I love her approach to publishing. And that’s a subject that has come up multiple times among our audience/followers. So Carol can give Biblical insights to all of us and very practical help to some!
