Dickens’ line is most appropriate for last week in Belize. Unfortunately, it’s the worst of times that requires our attention here. Before I share that with you, I do have to say that God blessed abundantly. With one exception, my response to last week can be summarized by thanksgiving and praise. Your prayers were answered in astounding ways and we were so blessed. There will be time to share much of that. And I know you will find it inspiring and ecouraging.

The Worst Of Times

Bluntly, we had a theft last week. In all of our travels nothing like this has ever happened. My purpose here is not to give great detail in a public space. However, the loss of trip/mission funds was significant and it happened at one of our ministry points. In seeking some wisdom and guidance, I shared the loss with the pastors on our team. But the majority of the team was unaware. Due to the unique nature of this event, I also had to make a call back home and update some folks here.

So why am I sharing this now? Well, it’s the front end of Dickens’ line from A Tale Of Two Cities. The worst of times was discovering the theft of resources that had been donated by great ministry partners. The best of times was an individual who has committed to restore the entire loss. That’s two extremes – one of evil and the other of God’s goodess in the heart of His servants.

But the good part leaves me with competing emotions and thoughts. First, I’m extremely grateful that someone would make that commitment. It’s humbling to say the least. At the same time, my heart goes out for the donor because this burden could be (should be?) spread out among many. Hence, the Army Of The Ordinary cover picture.

Action Plan – Best Of Times

To that end, I have asked our willing benefactor to wait until next week to write the promised check. In the meantime, until Monday, October 19, I am asking all who will to send in a donation of any size. If you do it through the donation page, we will know immediately. As usual, there are transaction fees with that. If you choose to write a check, please drop an email to me (keith@e-quipus.org) and let us know a donation is coming and how much it is. Please tag your donations: Best Of Times. That’s it. After that…

Next Monday, we will total it up and whatever part of the loss is still ‘outstanding’ will be covered by a faithful servant. If you can help, please do. As the saying goes, every little bit helps. And wherther or not you can help with a donation, please pray for this one-week effort.

I’ll close this way: Kingdom service is always the best of times!

Soli Deo Gloria!
