Valuable connections are so helpful – when or if we can see them. That’s my intent here. First, I’ll help you connect a couple of well-known verses: Romans 8:28 and II Corinthians 1:3-4. Then, there are applications of the connection made. Finally, you’ll see a very helpful example of the connection beetween those two Scriptural truths!
Romans 8 – Connections
God is at work in all things for our good. That includes the yukky stuff of life – like my failures, misfortunes, calamities and all the other things that exist because we live in a sinful, fallen world. God is greater than all those things. And He loves us enough to tell us that He can bring good to us even when we are going through something that in itself is not good. I’ve been there and so have you!
In II Corinthians 1:3-4, Paul addresses the comfort with which we ourselves have been comforted. Just using the term comfort is recognition of something painful. So pain and trouble exists and we go through it. But what else did he say? We can comfort others with that same comfort. Our Father, the God of all comfort, equips us to imitate Him, and participate with Him, in comforting others! Did I say He is good?
In many (most?) cases, God’s comfort comes to me in the form of a fellow believer who recognizes the spot I am in at the moment. And because they also went through that same dark valley in their own life, they can give me first-hand comfort, advice and instruction so I can make it through the ordeal. And like them, I will come out stronger on the other side. That is one way God brings the reality of Romans 8:28 into our lives.
YOUR Connections
I learned the truth of II Corinthains 1:3-4 in troubles of my own making. But God was faithful to bring good from that which wasn’t good all by itself. And thoughout my ministry years I have connected people in painful circumstances with others who have survived those same situations – death of a child, loss of a parent, false accusations, family member imprisoned, and much more. And it is your opportunity to serve the Lord and others in the very same way!
