Energized, but not by a battery!
During a recent prayer I heard something that connects us to an iconic symbol. You know the Bunny. He keeps going, and going, and going. The message we are supposed to believe is he never runs out of energy. That’s why the picture is humorous. We all know batteries get depleted. We also know we get depleted as well. But should we? And if when we do, how do we keep going, and going, and going?
During the Prayer
Our mission volunteer team attended worship at our host church in Samana, Dominican Republic. The guest speaker delivered a challenging message, we had a translator! At the close of the message he began to pray. His prayer was not translated. A mission volunteer who was standing next to me leaned over and said,
I have no idea what he is saying, but I can feel it!
The Energizing We Need
A great deal can be said about the power we want in our lives. We’ll save most of it for future posts. Today, I want to equip you to relax. That’s part of the answer to the display of God’s power. So I’ll just remind you we don’t have the power we need. It exists, but not within ourselves. God never intended us to be like the famous Bunny. Jesus said,
Apart from Me, you can do nothing.
All the power rests with Him. Our problems arise when we think His energy (His power) resides in us. God may fill us with His power, but the power is His. Make no mistake, there is great power in prayer. Two examples serve to make the point:
- Peter freed from prison due to prayer (Acts 12)
- Paul and Silas freed from prison after worship and prayer (Acts 16)
From these two examples we can learn several things:
- God displays His power through our prayer
- Prayer should be a part of what we do as individuals
- Prayer should be part of what we do as communities of faith
- God’s power is limitless, ours is finite
Remembering these simple things will allow us to keep going, and going, and going, energized by His power!
