Olympus Has Fallen
Will prayer help? The citadel is falling before our eyes and I don’t mean the White House. In the action packed movie, terrorists take over the White House and the code word goes out to all government agencies, Olympus has fallen! You may remember Olympus as the ultimate city of power, dwelling place of the gods, and ruled by Zeus.
What does Olympus have to do with prayer or you? Politicians and fabled cities do not represent ultimate power. Ultimate power is Truth. However, Truth is being cast aside every day. And since Truth is God Himself, Christians have a choice to make:
A constant prayer for Truth on Earth, or continued indifference.
Lesson From History
Have people faced this kind of situation before? Yes. Our society is plainly and painfully pictured in the book of Isaiah. The text says, Truth has fallen. The idea in the original language is causing someone to stumble and fall. Have we caused Truth to stumble and fall? In an ultimate sense, No. God cannot fail. But in a practical sense, Yes. We have not held up God’s standard of Truth for the world to see. How do I know? Look at our heroes:
-
Bruce Jenner
- Michael Sam, NFL
- Jason Collins, NBA
Political figures also provide proof. Joe Biden once stated, Bible-believing Christians violate the rights of the LGBT community simply by their existence. Truth has been made to stumble. It is NOT being held up for all to see.
And don’t forget the people society ridicules. That is also telling:
- Tim Tebow
- Hobby Lobby
- Chik-fil-A
Posted below my usual sign-off is the passage from Isaiah 59. I encourage a little prayer before you read it. I can’t believe anyone could read it and not be drawn to prayer afterwards. But as you read, notice the comment:
There was no one to intercede.
I will have more to say about that soon!
Soli Deo Gloria!
For our transgressions are multiplied before You, and our sins testify against us; For our transgressions are with us, and we know our iniquities.
Transgressing and denying the LORD, and turning away from our God, Speaking oppression and revolt, Conceiving in and uttering from the heart lying words.
Justice is turned back, and righteousness stands far away; For truth has stumbled in the street, and uprightness cannot enter. Yes, truth is lacking; and he who turns aside from evil makes himself a prey. Now the LORD saw, and it was displeasing in His sight that there was no justice.
And He saw that there was no man, and was astonished that there was no one to intercede; Then His own arm brought salvation to Him, and His righteousness upheld Him.
He put on righteousness like a breastplate, and a helmet of salvation on His head; And He put on garments of vengeance for clothing and wrapped Himself with zeal as a mantle.
