Prayer For 2020

Let me share my prayer for 2020. As the New Year is dawning, all of us should have a prayer focus. And I’ll invite you to pray for EquipUs along the lines of an ancient prayer that I have previously shared. No matter how often we pray the Lord’s Word back to Him, it’s never old, outdated, or irrelevant. And sometimes, the ancient words serve us best!

Prayer For 2020

We are a new organization beginning our first, full calendar year. And it seems fitting we should pray along the lines of Psalm 90:17 —

May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us – yes, establish the work of our hands.

There are three quick points to make this brief – but rest assured we will revisit these thoughts throughout the coming year.

First, our prayer for 2020 is for favor. Moses showed us to ask for God’s favor. And we see in Daniel 1:9 that God can cause others to look on us with favor. As we engage people, churches and groups this year we will need favor. God’s favor will increase volunteers, prayer, and support.

Second, remember Paul’s words about planting and watering – see I Corinthians 3:6-8. We labor for the Kingdom but it is God’s work. We work for God and He is at work in us. That’s why Psalm 127:1 tells us:

Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain that build it.

God working in and through us is both reassuring and challenging. God chooses to use us in Kingdom work. Think about that. He is Sovereign of the universe and He can accomplish His purposes any way He chooses. And He chooses to use tools like you and me. That is as amazing as it is humbling!

And this brings up the final point. We pray for Him to establish the work for us. Remember the words of Zechariah 4:6. Our labor, prayers and giving are important. But they are necessary predecessors to our Father doing what only He can do!

This kind of prayer will allow us to look back on an incredible year!

Soli Deo Gloria!
