Light In A Dark World

We live in a dark world that desperately needs light! And that statement represents two things:

  • Responsibility
  • Opportunity

But don’t think in terms of either/or. Our responsibility is to embrace opportunity and our opportunity is to meet our responsibility. Confused? Don’t be!

Light And Life

The Apostle Paul wrote to the Philippian believers about their responsibility and opportunity to be light. In Philippians 2:14-15, Paul said:

Do all things without grumbling or disputing; so that you will prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world, holding fast the word of life…

We live in a crooked and perverse generation. But if we hold fast to the Word of life, our very existence will be light that shines in the darkness. Paul’s words have much more to teach us. But that’s for another post. There is an exciting opportunity at hand!

Light In La Romana

Pastors in La Romana

Some of the pastors in August 2022 meeting

Our first step into 2023 is the opportunity to open a new section of the EquipUs Pastor Training School in La Romana. You may recall that we had a preliminary meeting there this past August. There were 50 pastors in attendance and they were passionately asking for help.

They are working hard to embrace their responsibility to be light in a place that is exceptionally dark. They want to be better equipped and that is the opportunity for EquipUs. But it is their opportunity as well. As we equip them they will lead their congregations more effectively. And once again, opportunity and responsibility are walking hand in hand.

Work scene in La RomanaThey have the opportunity to be light and bring life to La Romana. Our responsibility is to help them. And having worked in this area, I have experienced the spiritual oppression around La Romana. What you can’t see in the picture to the right is the person freed from demonic possession. That’s a part of our work that is very real. Never doubt that the things you read on the pages of the New Testament are still happening today.

So, while Stan and I spend our week teaching I’d like to ask you to spend your week praying. And if you are able, donations would be a big help. This work cycle in La Romana should last 4-6 years. That’s a step of faith and I have every reason to believe God will use His people to supply His work!
