Celebrating The Gift Of Education

Thank you for the gift of education! That was the message that came with these pictures. And as we are celebrating the ‘fifth birthday’ of EquipUs it is good to showcase something that’s usually done behind the scenes.

The Gift Of Education

Gift of education - school books

School books bought

Families in Belize have to provide several things so their children can go to school. Here’s a list:

  • Uniform
  • Desk
  • Enrollment fee
  • Books
  • Supplies

Most Americans think the shopping basket of school supplies costs far too much. Just imagine having to purchase everything else on the list above before your child could get in school! However, all those things can be provided in Belize for about $150.00 (U.S.). And that may seem inexpensive to most of us. But what if that amount of money was 25-30% of your monthly income?

EquipUs has been blessed with people who want to provide the gift of education. For many reasons we cannot do this publicly. So, as funds are provided we alert key pastors in Belize and they take care of making all the arrangements. It’s a life-changing opportunity and one of the things we get to facilitate. We have heard more than one excited student (and/or their mom) express gratitude for the provisions that make schooling possible.

Ministry Of Teaching

Jesus included teaching as part of HIs commission to His first disciples and therefore to us. In part, Matthew 28:19-20 says:

...teaching them to obey all the things I have commanded you…

The centerpiece of our ministry is teaching pastors. We entrust the Gospel to faithful men who will in turn entrust it to others (see II Timothy 2:2). But that is just one way we make Equipping For Life a reality for so many. And we have many other opportunities to teach and equip – like helping send a kid to school. There may be those who don’t thnk sending a kid to school could be considered a ministry action. If so, I’d say if one can’t read the Word they are going to have a hard time learning how to become an effective disciple of Jesus.Subscription Link

We have so much to celebrate; so much for which to be grateful. And I never make those statements that I don’t think about the host of people who make this ministry possible. There’s more to share and we will get to that!

Please consider donating and/or subscribing to our e-newsletter. Both are very helpful!

Soli Deo Gloria!

P.S. – Here’s an outreach tool for you! Feel free to share this video as a way to engage those who may not be familiar with the Gospel.
