The is the first installment of the EquipUs Share Project. That name may morph a bit and you are encouraged to send suggestions! The video is posted immediately below. Additional comments, as well as a partial transcript, follow the video.
Share Project – FAITH
This video is the first in a series. Our Share Project is meant to give a variety of tools to equip people for life. The reasons for this project are laid out in They Could Not, Pt. 1 and Model Prayer – They Could Not, Pt. 2. A paragraph from those posts is appropriate here:
Equipping For Life means, in part, sharing that message. We do it by faith and obedience. But looking at our culture it’s safe to say we lack some faith. It’s one thing to have a lapse of faith. The likely result might make it said of us, …they could not. But may it never be said of us, …they would not. We need some self-reflection and evaluation. And this model prayer is a great place to begin.
The message in question is the Gospel. Every believer is commissioned to make disciples. That includes many things. One of them is letting others know how to have a relationship with a loving Father. And Equipping For Life takes place on two levels when we obey our commission. Extending God’s offer of forgiveness obviously equips them. But obedience equips us!
So the Share Project alleviates the possibility of they could not. There are few people in today’s world that don’t send links and memes to each other in email or on social media. That means we can all share these Share Project videos as they are produced. Please don’t let it be said of you…they would not.
F is for Forgiveness. We need this because all of us have done something wrong. The Bible’s word for these wrong actions is sin. All of us are guilty and we need God’s forgiveness. This is plainly stated in Romans 3:23 –
All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.
But that doesn’t have to be the end of the story! God is not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. He has told us how and where to find forgiveness. Notice Ephesians 1:7 –
In Jesus Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins according to the riches of His grace.
So that brings us to the letter A. It stands for Available. Forgiveness is available to all. John 3:16 tells us:
God so loved the world that He gave His One and Only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.
However, forgiveness is not automatic. Jesus told us Matthew 7:21 –
Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
So, forgiveness is available, it’s not automatic, and it comes by asking. There’s more on that.
And next comes the letter I. It is for Impossible. The Bible tells us it is impossible for us to get to heaven on our own. Ephesians 2:8-9 tells us:
For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.
Sounds like a problem – and it is. If I have sinned and God doesn’t allow sin into Heaven, and I can’t get there on my own, what hope is there for me? The letter T gives us the answer.
What To Do
T is for Turn. If you find yourself headed down a dead end street, what do you do? You turn around; you change directions. And that’s how we understand that to turn means to repent. We turn away from our sinful ways because they are a dead end! But turning from something also means turning to Someone. His name is Jesus and He will forgive our sins if we ask Him. The is confirmed in Luke 13:3 –
Unless you repent, you will all perish as well.
The answer is only found in Jesus. And it is recorded for us in John 14:6 –
I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
And in Romans 10:9 He tells us how to come to Him.
If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
For those who will Turn and Ask, the letter H stands for two things.
First, H is for Heaven. It is a place where forgiven people will live with God forever. That is Jesus’ personal promise based on John 14:3 –
If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.
H is also for Here. You see, being right with God is enjoying a relationship with Him that begins here and now. It just gets better when we reach heaven. Notice what Jesus said about the purpose of His ministry on Earth in John 10:10 –
I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
That life can begin right here, right now. If you understand what has been shared, your turn-around can begin with this prayer:
Dear Jesus, I know that I am a sinner. I am asking you to forgive me. And I believe that you died on the cross to pay the penalty for my sins. I believe you were resurrected on the third day. I am inviting You to come into my life and be my Lord and my Savior. Thank you for your forgiveness. Amen.
If that prayer expresses your sincere desire, we would love to hear from you. Just reply to: [email protected] We will be glad to answer questions and help you find a place to grow as a new believer in Jesus Christ.
