A new year is beginning. And who doesn’t want it to be the best year possible? The outcome has a direct connection to how we begin. That’s true for marriages, new jobs, new businesses and most of life’s important endeavors. So, let me invite you to begin at the beginning!

Beginning In The Word

One of my favorite psalms is Psalm 8. You probably remember verses 4 and 5:

What is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him? For You have made him a little lower than the angels, and You have crowned him with glory and honor.

Beginning - BibleMan has a built-in curiosity concerning God. And God Himself supplies answers to those questions! We find His answers in His Word. And this helps us connect the beginning of a new year with His Word. How? Well, the Word has a beginning. That’s the meaning of the word Genesis. And just like every other important thing in life, outcome is rooted in beginnings. That’s true in the connections we can see between Genesis and Revelation!

Genesis – God’s View

Genesis portrays Man as the pinnacle of God’s Creation. It also tells us why our world is in its current condition. We do not live in the perfect world God created. We live, and minister, in a world deformed and afflicted with the results of our sin. Sin brought things like disease, poverty, disaster and death into a world that was created without them. Man has long attempted to blame God for these problems. But Genesis gives a very different picture. .

Never stop learning In Genesis, We see the origins of the universe, life, family, work, language, evil, government, faith and much more. And the more a society ingores the truths of Genesis, the greater its dysfunctionality becomes. That’s also true for individuals like you and me!

Genesis – New Testament

You might be surprised to know how prominent Genesis is in the New Testament. There are more than  160 passages in Genesis that are quoted or explicitly referred to in the New Testament. Many are quoted multiple times. That gives a minimum of 200 quotations of, or references to, Genesis in the New Testament. So how well do you know the book of Beginnings?

This is your opportunity. Notice the Apostle Paul’s words to the Corinthian church:

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
