God’s mission is people. God’s method is people. We call them mission volunteers! And missions is all about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. A healthy mission model will embrace the Gospel in two primary ways. First, to faithfully declare and teach the Word of God because:
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Second, the Word of God must be demonstrated. Jesus, the Living Word, demonstrated His own call to serve others when He knelt to wash the feet of His disciples. We never stand taller than when we kneel to serve others in Jesus’ name.
In summary, a healthy mission declares the Gospel in word and deed. Doing so gives us the opportunity to invite people to experience the reality of Jesus’ reason to live among men:
I am come that they may have life and that more abundantly.
