Several days ago I heard a news report about man who was ‘setting up camp’ outside a Best Buy store. He intended to be first in line on Black Friday and I guess he got in first. That day is quickly approaching again and that scene will be repeated all over the country.Black Friday deals

Here’s how it goes. Retailers advertise items that will be on sale. People decide which of these items they want. If the desire is great enough, they will wait days in cold, wind, rain, and snow in order to get the thing they want. Now, all of this anxiety and discomfort is for an item that will probably be obsolete soon, wear out, or be discarded for a newer better model.

I just happen to know the ‘granddaddy’ of all Black Friday stories. The guy in my story had the longest wait of anyone. However, there was no one else in line. Even though the wait was long, the desired items were purchased. What’s more, nothing screen shotpurchased will ever go out of style, become obsolete, or be replaced by a better model. What was purchased?

Deal Of The Ages

What a dealWell, the wait was a few thousand years. Since the foundation of the world, Jesus waited. There were no other perfect, sinless, sons of God in line because He is the only begotten of the Father. To the glory of the Father, Jesus proved the Father’s love for Man by paying the penalty for Man’s sin on a Roman cross.

The punishment He waited to receive surely belonged to you and me because we are the guilty ones. But His obedience to the Father’s plan benefits us by allowing us to exchange our sinful lives for His sinless life. It was by the stripes He endured that we are healed. And the forgiven life He offers can never be taken away, will never by superseded by anyone or anything, and will result in eternal joy in His presence. What else could anyone say but, “What a deal!” Hebrews 2:3-4 says it this way:

How will we escape if we neglect so great a salvation?

When you see the Black Friday ads, just remember the dark day we call Good Friday and the blood that was shed to grant us forgiveness. Have you received it? You can!

Soli Deo Gloria!
